Never forget (many tourists do) that Miami Beach is not Miami's beach, but its own distinct town.

On the mainland, the street numbering system is based on north-south and east-west dividers. In Miami Beach, streets also run east-west and avenues north-south. South Beach (SoBe) is the heart of the action and runs from 5th St up to 21st St.
